Dine Out Of This World At Planet Hollywood

My family and I visited Planet Hollywood at Downtown Disney in February, and I have not stopped thinking about it ever since. Planet Hollywood offers an out of this world dining experience: Everything from the decor, the food selection, and the building itself provided an eccentric and one-of-a-kind dining experience for guests.

The building is a beautiful, Earth-like dome complete with stars and a long red carpet. We felt like celebrities as we ascended the red carpeted stairs – and at the summit, a photographer was standing by to take our picture in front of a themed screen. In fact, if I had to pick a place in the Walt Disney World Resort area that celebrities would flock to for dinner, I believe that the Planet Hollywood at Downtown Disney would top the list.

Just outside of the entrance, guests can view famous movie props situated in a little grassy area. The zebra-printed Jeep from Ace Ventura and the ballerina topiary from Edward Scissorhands are just a few of the movie props on display at this location.

But inside is where the magic happens. The decor is amazing! Zebra-printed booths? Check! Floor to ceiling decorations? Check! Movie props from just about every single movie genre? Check! Cars and motorcycles dangling overhead? Yes, please!

But I know you aren’t just considering Planet Hollywood for the decor or the proximity to Walt Disney World’s famous theme parks. You’re there for the food, right?

Let me assure you – the food is incredible. The menu offers options for the whole family, from the pickiest of eaters to the more adventurous foodie. I chose the LA Lasagna, a crispy twist on a classic lasagna dish, while my husband opted for a juicy steak with loaded baked potato and steamed veggies. Danger tried the child’s spaghetti platter (and I stole her meatballs, which were so tasty!)

The portion sizes on all of our dishes were very generous, and we were able to box up our leftovers for lunch the next day. The lasagna and spaghetti reheated very well. Of course, we would have gladly reheated the steak, but between Andre and I, there was none left to take home! It was so good.

Another feature of Planet Hollywood that we really enjoyed was the DJ. The guy really knew how to please a crowd! We heard selections from old-school bands like Oasis to Taylor Swift and even Queen. Guests also had the option to make song requests, which I thought was a nice touch.

If you’d like a souvenir from Planet Hollywood, a wide variety of options are available. You can choose to purchase the picture that was taken when you checked in, or you can buy one of their famous t-shirts, as seen on everyone’s favorite Girl Next Door Holly Madison, fun light-up cups, and other Planet Hollywood branded products to commemorate your experience.

Planet Hollywood at Downtown Disney is an out of this world dining experience that you will not want to miss out on! We loved everything about our visit, and plan to return the next time that we are in the area (which will be very soon!)

What movie prop would you like to see featured at a Planet Hollywood?

My meal was covered by Planet Hollywood in exchange for an honest dining review of the Downtown Disney location. All opinions come from my own personal experiences at this restaurant.

Are You Following These Simple Travel Safety Tips?

Family vacations are a time for disconnecting from work, errands, and chores and reconnecting with loved ones. As beautiful and wonderful as it can be, a vacation can also be the time where your family is most vulnerable.

My family and I recently traveled to Kissimmee, Florida on a “working vacation” – that is, I worked while on vacation because it was the reason why we were there. While we were out exploring a beautiful regional park, our car window was smashed and a small bag containing a change of clothes for little Danger was stolen. We were exploring the trails for maybe 30 minutes. Needless to say, it came as a huge surprise when we made it back out to the parking lot and saw this:

Glass everywhere… Our brand new car destroyed… No safety officer in sight…

You must remember that seclusion and a peaceful setting is not an indicator of safety. In fact, the opposite can be true. For example: when my family and I were at SeaWorld and Disney’s Magic Kingdom, we parked our stroller (with valuables inside the attached bag) and walked off with no worries of anything being stolen. This isn’t always the case, I’m sure. It was, however, our experience.

Perhaps we were just at the wrong place at the wrong time. I don’t know. That doesn’t mean that I haven’t learned from this experience, because believe me – I have!

When you go on vacation, make sure you take a few safety precautions into consideration:

  • Don’t park near the road. Park closer to the trails or public areas to deter the criminals that hope to do a quick smash-and-grab.
  • Don’t leave valuables in your car. This includes things that could even appear to be valuables, like the small clothing bag we had up front. While not an expensive bag, it did resemble a laptop bag, making it desirable to criminals.
  • Don’t rely on your smartphone’s 3G or 4G internet in case of an emergency. You will need to have emergency numbers on hand in case something bad happens. It’s best to have these numbers written down before your trip so that you are prepared for anything that can come your way.
  • Do make sure that you tuck away any and all electronic cords that you may have used on the drive over. Think of all the devices that can be plugged into your car – GPS navigation, cellphone, tablet device – it’s no wonder that criminals target these vehicles!
  • Do be wary of parking at places that do not have either a camera or a ranger/employee on staff to monitor things. Just one person on staff can make a difference when it comes to deterring crime. In our experience, there was neither a camera nor a park ranger on staff, and we had to wait over 30 minutes for a police officer to come to our aid. This situation could have been much worse if one of us had been injured.
  • Do keep in mind that crimes against tourists happen everywhere. For whatever reason, criminals view tourists as being an easy target. Unfortunately, this happens in every tourist destination, so please be careful!

It’s Never Too Soon To Start Planning A Trip To Disney World!

I like to plan. In fact, I will cheerfully admit that I spend about 80 percent of my time planning for something. Much of my life is planned and on a schedule, and I like it that way.

Last Tuesday, I received an email that had me in tears. I was invited to attend the Disney Social Media Moms Celebration! This is something that I have been dreaming about for quite a while, yet I never planned on receiving an invitation to this amazing event. Notice what I said there? I didn’t plan on being invited. 😉

Because I was not going to get my hopes up this year, I decided to use our time in Kissimmee (while I was blogging on behalf of the Kissimmee Convention & Visitor’s Bureau) to take my family to experience Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom for the very first time. We had the most amazing family vacation, and left with so many wonderful memories that my daughter and I discuss daily.

I like to be prepared, so much so that I have been reading over as many blog posts from last year’s event that I could find in preparation for this year’s festivities. I know it will be magical. It’s Disney, after all. While I am not capable of the talent that it takes to organize and pull together this event, I can plan on a few things:

I plan to be inspired.

Speakers this year include Jackie HubaDayna SteeleShannon Miller, and Marc Mero, and the conference is hosted by Renee Syler. Such an amazing group of speakers! I was especially inspired by Shannon Miller at the Disney On The Road conference in Charlotte, NC, and cannot wait to hear more from her and the others at the #DisneySMMoms event!

I plan to learn from the best.

The Disney Social Media Moms Celebration is known for having a dynamic and unique grouping of individuals that share advice about the complete package: branding, parenting, work-life balance, and getting social! I will share their ideas with you during and after the conference, because the best part of learning new things is having the ability to share with others. Andrea‘s 2012 Disney experience provided me with an excellent “what to expect” type post for the conference.

I plan to form lasting relationships.

While I know of a few local women that will be attending (Krystyn, Maria, Kia, and Angela representing the GSMM crew) I am so excited about the opportunity to meet some of my other favorite bloggers in real life! The Disney Sisters did a wonderful job of compiling a list of the lovely people that they met at last year’s event, and it has me even more excited about attending this year!

I can plan the small details that are within my control.

Our clothes, our paths at the theme parks, and the extra food and snacks that we will bring with us – all small details that I am busily planning via Pinterest. May cannot come soon enough for me!
