A Night To Remember

One of my favorite things about being a mommy is the excuse to do fun things, whether it is something as simple as blowing bubbles, playing with Barbies, or even going to great, child-appropriate venues. We recently attended the Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey circus at Philips Arena in Atlanta, and we were not disappointed.

The excitement began as soon as we walked into the hallway outside the main floor. There were lights, toys, and so many bags of cotton candy that I almost got a cavity in anticipation. As we made our way down the steps and onto the main floor for the pre-show festivities, we could almost feel an electric current (some might call it a buzz) of excitement all around us.

We were told that we must wear clown noses in order to hang out with the clowns, so we dutifully popped them onto our noses. I was very surprised at my daughter, as she kept hers on for quite a while. There were things to do and see practically everywhere on the floor, and as such, there were plenty of opportunities for distraction without having to wait in a line.

We tried on clown clothes from previous circus performances.

The clowns were all so very nice, and it was a lot of fun to meet them and get their autographs in our official Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey show booklets. One clown even signed, “U = Super Cute!” I’m not sure if that was meant for me or my daughter, but I’ll accept the compliment for both of us.

The performance was amazing! I cannot even begin to describe all of the sights, sounds, and fun that was in store for us that evening! I can, however, describe the scent of the arena quite vividly (let’s just say it smelled completely opposite what it did when I went to the Taylor Swift concert a few months back.) That’s to be expected when there are animals performing in an enclosed location, and it really wasn’t that bad. Moving on…

My favorite part of the show was watching two acrobats – the Fernandez brothers – do gravity-defying tricks on top of two spinning rings. Wow.

The elephants, horses, and tigers were all wonderful as well. I was quite impressed with how beautiful and graceful that the elephants were. That was a bit surprising, considering their massive size.

There was also a human cannonball, a man so brave that he allowed himself to be set on fire and catapulted into the air. I could not hide my smile after watching that brave soul fly through the air, that is, after I caught my breath.

Have you had the opportunity to visit the Ringling Brothers and Barnum & Bailey circus? For people in the Atlanta area, you’re in luck! The self-proclaimed Greatest Show on Earth is at Gwinnett Arena, with the last performance being held on Sunday, February 26. If you would like to check out the tour schedule for when this amazing show will be headed your way, please visit the Ringling online tour schedule.

We had an amazing time, and I am already looking forward to the next time that the fine folks of Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey come back to Atlanta!

I attended the show at no cost as part of the press. I was under no obligation to post a review of the performance. All opinions expressed in this post come from my own personal experience at the show.
