What is your favorite fall family tradition? For me, it’s visiting a local pumpkin patch, going for hayrides, drinking apple cider, carving pumpkins, eating pumpkin muffins…. Ok, you caught me. I love everything about fall! (Hey, my name is Autumn!)
Perhaps that is why I am so excited to share Stone Mountain Park’s 10th Annual Pumpkin Festival with all of my Classic Mommy friends! As a family-friendly destination, Stone Mountain is well known by locals for offering a suitable environment for children of all ages. In keeping with this tradition, the annual pumpkin festival is a non-spooky celebration of fall. From intricately carved pumpkins to charming scarecrows, families will be entertained by friendly decor and activities to usher in the beginning of fall.
This year’s celebration offers up a new activity to get children moving. The Mayor’s Rockin’ Costume Party encourages costumed children to dance on-stage with the Mayor of Pumpkinfest, while they learn new dance moves – including a fun new dance called the Pumpkin Mash.
Also new this year is the addition of Spookley the Square Pumpkin, from Author Joe Troiano’s beloved book “The Legend of Spookley the Square Pumpkin.” Spookley serves as the “spokes-pumpkin” for National Bullying Prevention Month, taking place during October. Make sure to stop by the festival’s Storytelling stage to hear this sweet and empowering story read aloud!
Spookley is also featured in his very own scavenger hunt at the festival. The Spookley Family Scavenger Hunt engages the entire family on a hunt for Spookley the Square Pumpkin in various areas throughout the park. Participating families that complete the hunt are entered into a drawing to win a one-night stay at the Evergreen Marriott Conference Resort and a four-pack of tickets to Snow Mountain™, Stone Mountain’s winter celebration. One ticket package will be awarded each weekend of the Pumpkin Festival, so make sure to join in the scavenger hunt fun!
And that’s not all! The festival also offers:
- Kids Trick or Treat Scavenger Hunt
- Pie-eating contests
- “Pumpkinpalooza” family game show
- Create a scarecrow at Pumpkin Junction
